Salem : Salem Corporation is 30 years old Municipal Corporation, since from the formation of civic body, it doesn’t expanded for 3 decades. Many of social activists and residents requested government to expand the city corporation limit from long back to get government schemes which applies for Million plus populated cities.

TamilNadu government is keen on expanding Urban Local Bodies by merging with adjoining villages and town panchayats before next Urban Local Body elections in 2027.

With this regard, Directorate of Town Panchayats directed 4 Town Panchayats namely, Kannankurichi, Ayothiyapattinam, Karuppur & Omalur for submitting thier population and 3 years report or Revenue and expenditure. Likewise, Salem district collector sent a order letter for another 44 Village panchayat administrations for submitting thier population and 3 years revenue and expenditure details.

Our “The Salem New” team works on collecting population details of 4 Town Panchayats and 44 Village panchayats and mapping them. And here is the list of Villages and thier population.

Along with 829,267 population in 91 Km², Salem corporation will become 300+ Km². Population will be 1,186,173 based on 2011 census. In 2021 it may be increased further to nearly 15 Lakhs.
