Salem : 6th Salem airport advisory committee meeting held under Chairman & MP S.R. Parthiban. Airport Director Ramesh, Advisory Committee members Haribhaskar, Suresh Emmanuel, Babu, Omalur DSP Sangeetha and DMK were present in the meeting. State General Committee Member Panamarathupatti Raja, Advocate Lakshmanaperumal and others participated. The resolutions passed in the meeting were as follows:-
🔸 It was decided to urge the Central and State Governments to name the Airport Dr. Kalainar M. Karunanidhi in honor of late former Chief Minister Karunanidhi.
🔸 Resolution passed to Thank Salem MP S. R. Parthiban, Central Civil Aviation minister J.M. Scindia, State minister KN. Nehru for taking action to bounce back Salem airport.
🔸Urges Minister K.N. Nehru to taking steps to introduce city bus service between Salem airport to Central Bus Terminus and Junction.
🔸 To make facility for night landing at airport and to introduce morning flights to Chennai.
Salem Member of Parliament S.R. Parthiban told reporters:
🔸Air services to Bangalore and Kochi have been started from October 16 at the Salem airport under the Udhan scheme of the central government.
Salem-Chennai Air Service
🔸Salem-Chennai Air Service started from October 29.
🔸2167 people have taken flight from Salem in last one month .
🔸2436 people have come to Salem by air .
🔸130 flights have been operated. Salem-Chennai flight service is mostly full of passengers.
Direct flight service to Tirupati and Sirdi
🔸 Salem airport has received a lot of response, steps are being taken to start direct flight service from Salem to Tirupati and Sirdi.
🔸 At present 5 flights are coming and going every day, necessary steps will be taken to stop the flights during night time.
Airport expansion
🔸1800 meters of airport runway is present. Steps are being taken to expand the Salem airport runway to raise it to 3000 meters .
🔸The expansion of the airport will be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister and steps will be taken to ensure that the farmers are not affected.
