SALEM METRO : Suggested Route 1 – Omalur To Ayothiyapatinam !

Salem : CMRL is currently carrying out Feasibility study for implementing MRTS system in Salem by Aarvee associates. Here we are suggesting route for Salem MRTS system from Omalur To Ayothiyapatinam with 13 stations covering 25 Km. With 50K to 1L daily ridership.

Stations :

  1. Omalur
  2. Periyar University
  3. Karuppur
  4. Dalmia Board
  5. Mamangam
  6. Kuranguchavadi
  7. Sona College / Salem Junction
  8. Pallapatti
  9. Anna Park / Gandhi Stadium
  10. Thongum Poonga / Arts College
  11. Ammapet
  12. Udaiyapatti
  13. Ayothiyapattinam

Ridership Station wise :

Omalur :

Omalur is well developed suburban area and serves as a satellite city for Salem city. Many of peoples used to travel to Salem for various purposes. More or less 1000 to 2000 peoples are expected for daily ridership.

Periyar University & Karuppur :

These 2 stations are expected for high ridership among all 13 stations. More or less 15,000 students of University and Engineering college by morning and evening and Residents of Karuppur and Womens SIDCO & Upcoming TIDAL park will make a high efficiency for this route. Overall 20,000 peoples are expected to use metro from these stations.

Dalmia Board & Mamangam :

Dalmia and Mamangam are one of the busiest areas in city. ELCOT IT park school students like Golden spark and Senthil Public school and peoples working there may use metro. Nearly 1000 – 2000 peoples are expected to use metro from these stations.

Kuranguchavadi :

Kuranguchavadi is another important junction after to five roads, peoples who used to travel from east district (1000-2000) can utilise this station.

Sona College / Salem Junction :

Students from Sona College (nearly 5000), by giving bus facility to junction by metro Ltd or local TNSTC nearly 10,000 peoples can use metro for thier daily purposes. (15,000 – 20,000)

Pallapatti :

Peoples who resided over this area and by connecting with Salem Central Bus stand, this station can see 5000 – 10000 passengers daily.

Anna Park / Gandhi Stadium :

This station can be useful for East and West district peoples to reach Gandhi Stadium for thier daily purpose of sports training and it can connect east and west with Anna park. (2000 – 4000)

Thongum Poonga / Arts College :

This station will be another busiest one in this line by Ats college students. Daily over 5000 students may use metro.

Ammapet :

Ammapet station will provide easy connectivity with other parts of city. Peoples who resided over Ammapet, Ammapet colony, school students like Holy cross and college students like AVS Engineering and Sakthi Kailash may utilise this station. (5000).

Udaiyapatti :

Another local station can utilise by local peoples and school students (Notre Dame of Holy cross) and college students like Vysya College may use this station. (2000-4000)

Ayothiyapatinam :

Important town in Salem east district, Local peoples and school and college students like AVS arts and science are expected to use this station. (2000-3000).

System :

For Tier II cities it’s impossible and government will not have care for providing full fledged metro system, and by taking the view of daily ridership, Lite Metro system will be most profitable.

Features :

This route will provide better connectivity for Salem East and West district with Salem City.

Future Perspectives :

In future this route can be expandable to Mecheri in west and till Valapady in East, in the view of increasing daily ridership.
