Clarification Post about MRTS projects in Tier II City’s

We Could see Many asking why Tier II city’s need Metro in Many comments here and there. Just to clarify first of all it’s a study based on MRTS (Mass rapid transit system) it could be either full-fledged Heavy Metro or Metro lite or Metro Neo or BRTS (Bus rapid transit system)Consultants being appointed by Govt to prepare the feasibilityreport to suggest which kind of MRTS system is required onthe particular city based on the study system will be decided.

Consultant will study the city’s Current public transport facility’s, Population future growth of the city and projected population etc. those statistics will be a key factor to decide the system also those system will not become operation with in 2-3 yrs. Even if the construction starts this year, it will take minimum 6-7 Yrs. to become physical operation thus population and growth on that time also will be considered.

For Tier II city’s which are above 1 million Population as of now will be mostly decided as metro lite system. Metro lite exclusively Designed for Tier II city’s a full-fledged Heavy Metro costs 450 – 500 crs per KM means metro lite cost 130 to 150 crs max per KM. Coach size. Station size Pillar size will be small compared to Heavy Metro which are currently in operation is Metropolitan city’sMRTS (Mass Rapid Transit system) is Mandatory for cities over 1 million Population especially country like us where people mostly depending on public transport as well as to reduce the rapid increasing traffic.

So don’t think it’s a Heavy metro for all cities. Its basically a MRTS system and study and city’s potential will be a deciding factor.
