Tamil Nadu gives additional power to Corporation and Municipalities !

The Tamil Nadu government has increased the power to allocate funds and given additional power to the Corporations and Municipalities. With this, it is expected that there will be no more problem of waiting for permission in allocating funds.

The details regarding this are as follows;

Additional authority

The Government of Tamil Nadu has formally issued an ordinance related to additional powers, it has been informed that the powers to use the funds allocated by the Central and State Governments for public expenditure incurred in all the other Municipal Corporations and Municipalities of Tamil Nadu except the Chennai Corporation have been increased.

According to this, while municipal chairmen used to give permission only for works up to Rs.35 lakh, now they can give permission for works up to Rs.1 crore. It has been said that only projects need government approval.

For Corporations

The Corporation Commissioner, like the Municipal Administration, has been given additional powers to grant permission for works up to Rs.1 crore. Similarly, mayors who used to give permission only for works and projects up to Rs 20 lakh can now freely give permission for works up to Rs 50 lakh.

It has been said that the director can give approval for works up to Rs 10 crore and only for works above that, government approval is required. All these are applicable only to Corporations and Municipalities except Chennai.
